Mid Season Summary
Well we are a third of the way through the season, and things look a hell of a lot better then they did last year at this time. We are currently sitting at 3-2, and also have a win under belts in cup play. Not too shabby at all. With core players missing for most of the games, Madrid has been able to put up performances worthy of recognition. And even though they have 2 losses under their belts, they still only sit 2 or 3 points out of top spot in relation to the division title. So let us break down the season so far, in only the way we best do…..
Good - or should I say amazing? Baz leads Madrid scorers with 4 goals ( and 1 in cup play) so far this season and doesn’t look like he’ll be stopping anytime soon. Those lean legs and short shorts are becoming quite the terror on the field. - Team as a unit. With key members missing, these lads have kept it respectable thus far keeping us in the hunt. They may not be the most skilled, but their work ethic is tops. - Paul Grimes being 100% in converting penalty kicks……sure, he may not do anything else on the field, but the man can finish with authority. Unlike Mark…. - Karsten in the nets. Missing out all winter didn’t have an effect on this man as he keeps getting better and better as the games go on. Diving grab in the last game one of only many highlights thus far. - Beer……with a 100% attendance record. Looks like we laid the law down and its working brilliantly. Everyone has brought when they were suppose to and people are leaving a little too happy when they get in their cars…. - Girlies….ummm… I mean fan support. Kudos to the ladies who are coming out ( also Cooper a.k.a l’il Darren) and giving us something to play for. Mind you, Chris’s little ladies attendance has been a little shoddy lately…. - Overall team work ethic. To the 8 who showed up against the Ukraine and never gave up. - Team Astra in having Centennial Stadium as their field………….last time I played on a field that sweet was when I was 19 and she was a stripper at….
Bad - defense still a little shady here and there, but with Higgins back ( woop-dee-doo) things should tighten up. We got lucky sometimes, and Karsten bailed us out other times. But when the dead last team in the league has only scored 3 goals, and 2 of them are against us…..something’s wrong. - Injuries……are starting creep up on us. Sean Roth has a pulled groin ( I swear I didn’t do it), Karsten has a bad thumb, and Trevor has a sore toe. I’m sure there’s more that I don’t know about, but it might take an effect on us in the long run - Fields at soccer city…….. that one in back near Eglington is a death trap waiting to happen. Don’t expect things to get any better as the season progresses and Lez gets fatter and lazier due to the heat....
Ugly - the bar at soccer city not open? Fix the damn A/C for pete’s sake. - Princess Dave S. commenting on how he cant play on crappy fields. Kids in Brazil play on the streets with rocks and your complaining about the field? Shame on you. - Last time our website was updated? May 24th (which conveniently coincides with the return of Jane…). Soccer city has begun to follow suit as they haven’t updated their site in 2 weeks….. how am I suppose to work out possible playoff scenarios and statistics when this sh!t ain’t updated? - Baz and Ritchie immediately heading to the showers on their own after the game. Why wasn’t I invited?
Keep up the good work lads. We have a date with hated Redpath on Monday, and then a cup match next Saturday against Eglington West.
