A NEW FORCE IN THE LEAGUE
The Madrid of old is back as they tie league
leaders
Real Ale Madrid 1 Redpath 1
Ian
Now this is how it should be.
The lads took on league leaders and undefeated
Redpath last night and if you didnt know any better you would have thought it
was Madrid that was undefeated with the way they played last night.
redpath are old foes of Madrid, and their scrappy in your face play may irk other teams but this is the type of game Madrid loves to play. this is the type of game madrid is known for and no one can do it any better them. This their version of Total football.
fresh off of an 18-2 win last week that saw Jack propel himself to leading league goal scorer with 9 goals and the greek tied for 3rd in the league with 4 goals, madrid was brimming with confidence. A loss tonight would not be acceptable to them and to take down the league leaders would send a message to the rest of the league that they are not the doormats that they're first couple of results might have misled people to believe.
and Madrid started well. Ball control was execeptional as they pressed forward with chances and toc-tac-toe passing that had redpath on their heels. the pressure paid off 15 minutes in as the greek won a ball on the outside of the box and after making his way toward goal laid off a nice pass to Ian who slotted the ball past the keeper with authority. 1-0 madrid and a great start indeed.
The game continued with chances for both clubs and some very up and down officiating that saw a couple of yellows handed out in the process. Redpath equalized in the second half with a errand bouncing ball that with some luck landed in the path of a redpath forward who blasted past the keeper Darren.
there were chances for both squads late the game as a flick on by louis landed in the path of trevor blazing down the side whose shot was just touched enough by the keeper and hit the post. the greeks left footed attempt whistling just inches off the post and some late scrambles on corners that could have gone either way.
A 1-1 final and a positive result for Madrid as they begin to reassert the play that they were known for a couple of years back. the team as a whole performed exceptional with the following to be noted....
- grimes playing a blinder at sweeper controlling
the back
- the defense sticking to their men and not giving
up
- the midfield controlling the centre of the pitch
and passing with authority.
- the forwards making solid runs and pressuring the
redpath defense consistently.
- and darren making good stops and playing excellent
spot kicks high and far to the midfield in order to win the ball.
This is the Madrid i know, and those who may have beat us earlier in the year will definately not be so lucky come the second time around.
we're back baby, we're back.
This sunday has been deemed Roy's Farewell Game as the over 30's battle second place Milton. so just like we sent John off with a victory, lets show the respect we have toward Roy by doing the same for him.
