MADRID DROPS ANOTHER
Managements moves bring some life to
team, but still a long way to go.
Europa 2 Real Ale Madrid 0
It was a game circled on many peoples calenders.
Mine to boot.
Last night Real Ale took the pitch against our ever so well known advesaries
Europa on a night where it looked like the heavens would open at any time in
order to unleash a vicious downpour of rain that was well overdue.
Manager Grimes knew changes had to be made, and had made it known to all that changes would happen this night. Madrids performance of late has been just downright horrid. If it wasnt for a called game last week the final would have been 10-0, which some players were still reeling from after a defeat this past sunday with the over 30's. Pacing the field in his half unbuttoned dress shirt and sporting his armani shades, the junior sir alex ferguson made his decisions as to who would play where.
It was decided that the formation would be a 3-5-1 formation. The outside midfielders would sprint up for support and hustle back when needed to provide the defence some support. The greek thrown into the middle, the big boys Baz and Trevor alternating the forward position to provide height.
The game begins and madrid is looking much better. The passing is good and the movement toward the opposition's net is actually bringing us chances. Headers just missing the net, shots on goal ( which were non-existent last week), and corner opportunities are earned. these are the things that eventually lead to goals, not like last weeks debacle.
And score we do.....at least we think so....when Trevor redirects a Newman shot into the back of the net but is deemed offside. And like clockwork, it is only minutes later when a europa player makes his way thorugh 4 madrid defenders and pots the opening goal of the match.
The game is hard fought and chances went both ways for both teams. Europa increased its lead when former Real ale pretty boy Albert turned on a defender (we'll say Thomas for arguments sake) and placed one hell of a shot into the net that Darren tried valiantly to try and get to with no avail.
Madrid continued to swarm but couldnt click, and with five minutes to go the ref calls the game on the account of lightning and madrid is handed another loss.
The heavens did open up, as the tears of another loss fell ever so hard to the ground to emphasize yet another defeat. It will take time for these changes to jell but they were positive and much needed.
The results sure to come in due time, for the brains of Sir Grimes do indeed work magic.
