SATURDAY APRIL 7th 2012

My prophecy came true. We did not win our last two games however it does appear we have sneaked into a play off spot. Mr G details the most recent game and some updates on Goderich which is rushing towards us on the weekendof June 2nd.

Real Ale Madrid 1, Jaggers 4
Jack 1

A well played game, lots of effort and with more clinical finishing, could have been closer. I think we may get these chaps in the playoffs possibly and with the right tactics, we may be able to give them a run for their money. Playoff game by the way, is April 26th, 9.15pm

After the game it was good to see Lisa, Jen, Jane and Wendy show up to boost the hotness factor of the Real Ale Madrid team. Lynn is not included because she plays on the team and it is a well known fact you cannot find your teammate attractive (even though she is of course) unless it is Szooomer making eyes at Dave.

So our second last game at Soccer City is history, our last ever league game there. Strange to think that way. However, never say never. Some of us may put a summer indoor team together. Interested? Let me know.

A couple of weeks off now.

Over 30. Looks like our first league game will be May 13th at home. Details to follow. That is only 5 weeks away! I will try and get a friendly in before that. I need to get the new players signed up. Contact me lads.

SUNDAY MARCH 25th 2012

A good win against a young team on Thursday night which takes us into a potential play off spot. Unfortunately there is not a hope in hell we are going to win the next two games as they are against some of the top teams. Ah well. Quick match report from me as the boss did not bother this week (lazy get) ... we beat PSG 6 -2 with Jack McNulty on fire scoring 4 and Alex scoring two crackers as well. Other news this week is that the Goderich tournament is a week earlier this year which is good news in that it means some of the folks who are heading out to see the European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine will be able to play.

More news as we get closer to the date of June 2nd.

SUNDAY MARCH 18th 2012

Quick update as its been a while. A win and a loss for the last couple of games keeps us atop the 'winnable' group of teams in Division 2. Another chance this week to keep the trend going - one game a good chance of winning and the other more likely we get spanked as we play the 2nd place team of Operario. Game time this week after last weeks bye is 9.15pm. Let the Gaffer know if you are not available.

Other news is that things are not looking good for the midweek outdoor team at this point. Not enough players have committed to TSSL league and others dont want to play Soccer City again because of the pitches. We can talk more on Thursday and Mr G has some details with his match report here:

Real Ale Madrid 2, Steamers 1
Jack 1
Simon 1

Now that's more like it!

Against our friendly rivals, The Steamers, it was at last fun to play football again. Two evenly matched teams, a good spirit and some rather good football played by both sides. With a change in tactics, playing with two in the middle with Dave and Stan joining Alex and I, this could pave the way to stop us losing 10-2 against the young teams. Indeed, I believe we could get it down to 5 or 6-2 instead! Isn't that something to look forward to?

A couple of very nicely worked goals last night as well. Jack walloping a beauty into the top corner after a defence splitting pass from "wheels for legs" Szooomer and then Simon finishing a lovely pass from yours truly, "the stationary man". 2-0 and cruising after 15 minutes. The Steamers of course never give up and pulled one back before half. The second half was a tight one, but we held out for a crucial win and we now jump 6 places in the FIFA standings to 123,546th just above the Ladies Auxiliary XI and just below Manchester Utd.

One dark note was an injury to Lynn's knee. We had to carry her off the field, which was a shame, but a highlight for me as that is first time I have ever touched a women. Hopefully she recovers soon.

We are off next week, no game.

Mid week team news. Looks like we are going to have to pass on an outdoor team this season unfortunately. I just cannot get enough people to commit to playing full time to make it worthwhile and no one wants to play again outdoors at soccer city.

We have a couple of options. We can play summer indoor at soccer city and still have our committee meetings afterwards on the Real Ale patio. Some of us close to Brampton could join the rec league there, or we could take those interested and maybe merge with another team in the TSSL. Anyone have any other ideas? Let me know if summer indoor interests you.

Seems a shame to have to give up the midweek games and the social aspect, but if we cannot get at least 22 players, it is too expensive and a pain to play in the heat with only 9 or 10 players.

The Sunday team will continue as normal of course. There are a couple of spots open for anyone interested in playing on that team.

Finally, the annual City of Brampton United Way Charity Curling Tourny was held yesterday at the new Chingacousy Curling Centre. The beer flowed all day and it was a grand old day which raised a lot of money for a worthy cause. A couple of snaps for your viewing pleasure.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 10th 2012

News this week centers mainly around a great performance and victory on Thursday against fellow basement dwellers Juicers. A spirited and young team, they ran us ragged for a bit but we settled into a nice rhythm, played some nice football and after we scored a couple they never really looked like getting back into it. Onto next week and our old mates Gangz, now playing under the name Petrelli. This one will be a toughie so we need everyone there. 7pm so dont be late and money is due.
